New T-Shirt Store in Beta
We’ve been busy in BigBarooville looking for new ways to offer a wider variety of breed specific products. We are happy to announce that we have recently designed a new selection of t-shirts as a result. We’ve created new Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, Great Dane, Great Pyrenees and English Mastiff t-shirt designs with a service called Printfection. We’ve have integrated the new store into the main BigBaroo.com but that doesn’t mean you can’t get your hands on these great t-shirts. Swissathalon ‘08
Big Baroo just got back from the Crooked River Swissathalon ‘08. We had a great time. Our Swissy, Greta, participated in the weight pull and placed 4th in her weight class. She also earned her first leg in pack hiking by completing the sunday morning pack hike through the beautiful trails of Hinkley, Ohio. Both Jack (our Great Pyrenees) and Greta also passed their AKC Canine Good Citizen tests over the weekend as well.
We were also happy to help out by donating a Big Baroo Swissy prize pack for silent auction. Amy Moore took home a Swissy t-shirt, poster, tote bag, sticker and post cards. In all it was another great opportunity to let our working dogs show off their skills. Big Praise! to The Crooked River Swissy Club.
Isle of Dogs Grooming System
On our first visit to the boarding and grooming facility that we use for boarding and doggie daycare we were chatting with the owner who breeds and shows beautiful Golden Retrievers. He told us about a new line of products that their resident groomers were using and recommended them for our Greater Swiss Mountain Dog who had flaky skin and for whitening and detangling our Great Pyrenees. He pulled out a huge binder detailing the Isle of Dogs Grooming System and flipped through to pages with specific recommendations for each of our breeds. It outlined the suggested shampoos, conditioners, and grooming sprays for each breed and we decided to try one of the shampoos and one of the conditioning/grooming sprays.
The products below are the ones we purchased and I really love both of them. After one shampooing our Swissy was no longer flaky and was very shiny and smelled great. The detangling spray works wonders on our Pyr’s coat and I use it before each of his weekly brushing sessions to make combing easier and to make him smell fantastic!
Swissy in Blue
Our limited edition chocolate swissy tees are nearing short supply. Get one while you still can! The response to these has been great but we’ve had a lot of requests for more color options. Never ones to shy away from color ourselves, we are happy to unveil the design for the next member of the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog breed collection. The Light Blue Swissy tee features a slightly different design than the chocolate tee. Instead of the sleeve Swissy icon graphic it features the full “Greater Swiss Mountain Dog” name on the upper left chest. The blue and white design is printed on a light blue, 4.5 oz ,100% cotton, fashion fit tee. It’s a very comfortable summer weight and works great for layering in the winter. Like all of our Tees these are limited edition so get one while you can.
Greater Swiss Mountain Dog National Specialty
Big Baroo had it’s official debut May 12-16 at the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog National Specialty at Hueston Woods Resort. We had a great time not only taking in the show but getting to share our Swissy collection with the breed’s biggest advocates.
This was a chance for us to show off our wares while getting a crash course in all of the different activities that GSMD’s compete in. Not only are these big dogs excellent at drafting and weight pulling they can hold their own in the obedience and conformation ring. We’re excited about getting our Swissy, Greta, involved in at least a few of these activites so she can have as much fun at the next event as these dogs were having. Special Praise! to our fellow members of the Crooked River Swissy Club for their performance in Team Obedience, impressive and hilarious!
Thanks to everyone who stopped by our tent and bought a t-shirt. It was a very proud moment on friday to see so many people sporting their Big Baroo Swissy Tee.

Big Dog’s Porch
Owning and loving a large or giant breed dog comes with a unique set of challenges and rewards.
